The meeting of mental health proffessionals of 12 countries in Lumbini has been kicked off. On this occassion, the nepalese mental health proffessionals have revealed the fact that 20% of the population have some form of mental disorders. Among the affected 2% are suffering from psychosis ( severe form of mental disorders). Among the causes which are social, genetic and psychological , the psychological factors have been the prominent factor of mental illness in Nepal according to the published study. The low level of awareness in rural areas and the stigma associated with mental illness in city areas have been deterrent factors for the promotion of mental health according to the proffessionals.
